The Kansas City area shows mixed results when it comes to bank branching, driven by changing outlooks on the future of branch networks.
The area lost 29 branches — and 10 bank brands — from 2012 to 2013. Nationally, banks shed 1,536 branches during 2013.
In the fourth quarter of 2013, Missouri was one of only seven states to add to its bank branch total, netting one additional bank branch compared with the previous quarter. However, for the entire year, Missouri shed a net of 43 branches.
