Waddell & Reed Financial Inc. reported first-quarter earnings of $74.86 million, or 88 cents a share, up 39 percent from the same period a year ago.
The Overland Park-based mutual fund manager (NYSE: WDR) ended the quarter with $131.4 billion in assets under management, a 26.6 percent jump from the same period last year. The increase was driven by an organic growth rate of 14.7 percent and strong sales that added $10 billion in assets under management.
