What the UAW strike at Fairfax plant costs KC-area economy

The area economy is losing $20.4 million every week the strike continues at General Motors Co.'s Fairfax Assembly Plant, according to estimates by the Center for Automotive Research. That's because the Kansas City, Kan., plant employs 2,177 people and, for every one of those jobs, another six is supported. The Center for Automotive Research estimates the plant supports 5,207 jobs in the direct supply chain and another 7,009 jobs that are supported by worker spending. That's a total of 14,393 jobs…
