Evergy is the result of the 2018 combination of Great Plains Energy Inc. and Westar Energy Inc. Great Plains set up a venture fund in 2015 that now is called Evergy Ventures. It has invested about $53.5 million in 13 companies, including Spear Power Systems in Grandview and Pepper IoT in Kansas City.
