King5 News in Seattle claimed in a recent story to have “sources with intimate knowledge” who were saying the NHL is closely monitoring the status of a new arena project in Seattle. The sources said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has been “quietly pushing owners to award a franchise to Seattle,” perhaps even as early as next year.
