A federal appeals court upheld $150,000 in sanctions levied against Stephen Six and Austin Moore of Stueve Siegel Hanson LLP in Kansas City, Darren Kaplan of the Darren Kaplan Law Firm PC in New York, and their respective law firms.
The lawyers all worked with a plaintiff named James Dillon, who borrowed money from payday lenders in 2012 and 2013. The North Carolina man claimed the lenders were charging usurious interest rates, including a loan of $2,525 from an online lender called Western Sky.
