Ford Motor Co. announced it will begin using a wide variety of recycled materials in the 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck, which is produced at its Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo, Mo.
The new truck will see the use of rice hulls, a byproduct of rice grain, to reinforce the plastic in wire harnesses. Ford will need at least 45,000 pounds of hulls in the first year. It will source the product from RheTech, a supplier based in Whitmore Lake, Mich.
