With interest rates on government securities really low and lots of deposits still on their books, the 134 banks in the Kansas City area remain in a heated battle to make loans.
Overall, lending by commercial banks based in the Kansas City area was up 8.4 percent in the third quarter of 2014 compared to a year ago. It reached $28.2 billion, the highest level since the second quarter of 2009.
